Inspired by his Gran, Luke Chapman founded Switchboo after realising that her energy supplier overcharged her one year by £700 and was taking advantage of her for nearly 45 years.
Like most people, Luke’s Gran (pictured below) didn’t really understand the ins and outs of her energy bills and just paid the bill when it came.
Luke said on BBC: “There’s a huge problem in the UK right now where 53% of households are overpaying for their gas and electricity, and it’s crazy.
“If you do not review your energy deal before it ends, you will roll you onto your supplier’s standard plan, which is usually their most expensive plan.
“And the problem is, we all know that we should check our energy bills each year, but we don’t have the time, and as a result, we end up paying more than we need to.”
Switchboo solves that problem
From a young age, Luke taught himself computer coding, and he used these skills to build Switchboo.
You sign up completely free in 2 minutes, tell us a little bit about your energy at your home without any technical jargon, and we’ll search for cheap gas and electricity deals.
We’ll show you the cheapest deals we can find, and you can select what’s best for you, or we can help select for you.
Then when that deal ends, we’ll contact you and help you again, so you know that you’re always getting a great deal.
Switchboo is rated 4.8 out of 5 stars on Trustpilot and helps thousands of people of different ages across the UK.
We’re on a mission to stop every household from paying too much for their gas and electricity.
As seen on BBC
BREAKING NEWS: Energy bills will rise for millions of households from October by 12% on average (at least £139 a year)
Ofgem has said that due to a rise in wholesale prices, energy bills are going to increase by at least £139 from October 1 for 53% of households that are on their supplier’s default tariffs.
Energy prices have increased more than 50% over the last 6 months, with gas prices hitting a record high as the wholesale market recovers from the pandemic.
This is a bad storm that could not come at a worse time when families are already struggling. At the same time, Universal Credit is being cut and furlough is ending.
Switchboo has pledged to support as many households as we can and get them switched onto the cheapest plans, so they’re not affected by the price increase.
If you’re already a part of the Switchboo family and you’re on a fixed plan, you won’t be affected, and you’re in safe hands.
